From the first step inside, you’ll notice the polished authenticity that defines Uncle Harry's. As Travis Jay aptly describes, it’s a true gem—its rough edges amplify its charm. The tavern boasts a diverse selection of craft beers, expertly curated to please both microbrewery enthusiasts and those who appreciate the classics. Whether you’re in the mood for a robust Belgian Quad or popular commercial options, there’s something for every palate.
The ambiance is bolstered by cozy booths and cushioned bar stools—which Michelle Behne highlights as a comfort that enhances the overall experience. The cleanliness and warm decor contribute to a welcoming vibe, attracting locals who enjoy a sense of community alongside their drinks. A noteworthy aspect is the skilled bartenders, like the knowledgeable staff praised by J Nance, who take pride in their craft and ensure customers receive unmatched service.
At Uncle Harry's, the joy of a night out goes beyond just sipping drinks; it’s about engaging with others. From darts enthusiasts to those enjoying lively jukebox selections, the tavern encourages interactions that make every visit memorable. Sue Campbell appreciated the blend of traditional beer styles with the modern touch, demonstrating that Uncle Harry's is both a fresh take on a local watering hole and a nod to time-honored tavern traditions.

“ Truly a gem in every sense of the word. Is it in the rough? Sure. That is the sheer beauty of the polishing the authenticity of this place. Staff that is beyond fabulous, a selection of cocktails, unique beer, and shots that only rivals Traer; all while attracting the type of people that allows you to live life to the fullest without pretension or regret. Bottom line, a good time. *Also, play Sandstorm on the jukebox for street cred. meow. ”
“ This was the first time I visited this bar and I was pleasantly surprised. Even though it is a relatively newer business, I expected more of an old-time environment and selection of beers. They have a great selection of micro-brewery beers, as well as some popular commercial beers on tap. The bar stools are cushioned and have back rests. There are cozy booths along the wall opposite the bar. The place was very clean. Apparently it is also a popular place for the local darts aficionados. ”
“ We liked this little bar with all the history. We could tell it was a local hang out, the bartender knew everyone by name. Great drinks and awesome bar chairs, super comfy! ”
“ Our bartender was the most knowledgeable I've met in my recent journeys. The place is passionate about beer! The decor reminds me of classic bars that I'd imagine in movies. So thankful that I got to visit and see people dancing with their jukebox selections as I got to enjoy a TRUE Belgian Quad. Update 10.1.24 Phill still kicks ass. ”
“ Great high end beer selection (yes they have the macro classics as well!) plus great bartenders that know their stuff and a good atmosphere, all settled in downtown Cedar Falls. One of my favorite places to grab an after-work beer. ”
“ Best bar (no food) in town in my humble opinion. They have something for everyone, the drinks are mixed well and heavy. You get the full spectrum of people from college age, young professional to aging so there's something for everyone. Say hey to Phil (the bald one)!! ”
“ A really great bar. A wide selection of flavors that for the most part I have never heard of, which is part of the fun. Just go in and tell the bartender the type of beer that you enjoy and they will find you something that is appropriate to that taste. It can get crowded on weekends with the college crowd but otherwise a fun place to try new beers. ”
“ Uncle Harry's Five and Dime was a recommendation from Matt the cab driver from Dollie's Taxi who shuttled me into downtown Cedar Falls and back last Saturday. What great input he provided. Thanks, Matt!! Uncle Harry's is a classic old neighborhood tavern with a few distinguishing characteristics. The room is almost spacious making getting around very manageable. Eclectic is a good term for the decor, mixing several decades of "artwork". The walls are well-populated with signage from pre-craft, Midwest regional brewers, which particularly drew my attention. It was well attended by students from the local University on this early Saturday evening. The beer selection is very pleasing, with 15-20 taps pouring a good variety of mostly craft brews. There is a sizable draught beer cooler at the far end of the bar. Normally, that would be my focus, but this visit was brief and I was looking for a spirit. Harry's has two areas on their back bar, one each for their brown and clear spirits which are well balanced. I asked the gentleman serving me for a suggestion for a whisky to drink neat and he came through with a bourbon from an Iowa craft distiller that was most enjoyable. My all-to-brief first visit to Uncle Harry's Five and Dime was a real treat, and I look forward to a return during my next visit to Cedar Falls!! ”
